Yet Another BBM Release… 5.0.0.57

December 22nd, 2009 Mike Dorrett No comments

Even during an outage RIM has found the time to release yet another version of BlackBerry Messenger. With all the recent releases, it doesn’t look like they are going to stop anytime soon.

5.0.0.57 is now available on the BlackBerry download site and I imagine it won’t be too long before it is available in App World. I have not had the chance to download the newest version due to the outage. From what I have been told this is just another service update. Not too sure what issues it addresses at this point, but my understanding is not too much has changed.

If you were one of the lucky ones that managed to grab it before the outage, leave us a comment and let us know whats new in the update if anything. If you had to wait to grab your copy get it HERE.

An Early Christmas Present from MTS Mobility

December 22nd, 2009 Mike Dorrett No comments

It seems as though Christmas has come early for all of us Storm owners and users. With all the recently released devices it seems Storm owners have been swept under the rug so to speak when it came to OS leaks.

MTS Mobility (Manitoba Telecom Services) formerly Manitoba Telephone Service has made OS 5.0.0.419 an official release. I myself have not played with this OS release, so I am not entirely sure what the changes are. I can only say for certain that it is running a higher platform version.

This brings a lot of excitement to Storm owners worldwide. This has been the only release or leak that I have heard about since Verizon Wireless released 5.0.0.328. We can only hope that with all the leaks and releases in the last two weeks, that there is some more love headed our way.

Download your nice new OS HERE and remember to drop by our forums and let us know your findings. Remember to follow install directions when installing.

BBM 5.0.0.52 leaked

December 8th, 2009 Mike Dorrett No comments

While checking Twitter updates on my break. I came across a tweet from our friends at www.BBHybrids.net with a link to BBM 5.0.0.52. I have installed this version which has been pulled from the newly leaked 9700 OS.
Although I haven’t had much time to tinker with it, I have noticed that the fonts have been changed and avatars seem crisper.
Here is the link for OTA.  If you find any issues please let us know. Enjoy!

*UPDATE*
I have recently found out that this version has been released to carriers for testing so please use it and let us know what you think.

A quick look at IDrive Lite

November 10th, 2009 Mike Beattie No comments

IDrive Lite is among the many OTA back up apps for BlackBerry. The difference here is IDrive actually does what it was designed to do and nothing else. If ota contact back up is a solution your looking for, Idrive is for you.
With BBM’s new email recovery system backing up your BBM contacts remotely, IDrive steps in to cover your address book. Now users no longer have to worry about loosing they’re contact info in the event of a lost, stolen or broken device. The process is simple, throughout the course of a week/month users will acquire new address book contacts, simply hitting back up from within IDrives menu will re sync your ota back up files and any new contacts that have been added to your address book since your last back up will be saved remotely off site. In the event of a lost or broken device, users would download the app to they’re new phone and sign in to they’re IDrive account to restore all they’re contacts onto they’re new device.
Between BBM’s new recovery system and IDrive Lite, users will never again have to manually re add contacts to a new BlackBerry. IDrive is available from App World.

Tinylock for BlackBerry

November 1st, 2009 phantom No comments

HandRapid has another free app that I thought all of you would be interested in. It is a simple application that locks your Berry when the back light goes off. Nothing crazy and all and you could probably get the same functionality with a password timeout but then you would need to have a password.

It also has an option to not lock the phone when the USB is connected or when you have an application screen open instead of the home screen. Click here for more info.
